'Respect'
May 15, 2012: Jubilee Fete this weekend!
Our Jubilee Fete is this Sunday, May 20! Thank you for all the efforts, time
and energy, being given in
preparation for our Jubilee Fete.
Let us hope
for a beautiful sunny day. We are
all looking forward to a great
community event!
May 8, 2012: Archbishop Mark
Coleridge
This Friday at St Stephen’s Cathedral, Archbishop Mark
Coleridge will be installed in his ministry as Archbishop
of the Archdiocese of Brisbane. Archbishop Coleridge
comes to us from Canberra Goulburn. He comes to us
with a long record of interest and service in education.
I encourage you to take 38 minutes to view his press conference.
Let us
pray for Archbishop Coleridge and for every person in
the Archdiocese to be attentive to the inspiration and
wisdom of the Spirit as we embark on our new and
exciting journey together.

May 1, 2012: ANZAC Day Commemoration
Thank you to the 55 children and
parents who gathered on Anzac
morning to commemorate with the
Holland Park /Mt Gravatt community.
It was uplifting to see so many children
participate with such reverence and
respect. There was a huge crowd
present and it was good that we were
represented so well.
April 24, 2012: Lest we Forget
Last Friday night we held the Milne
Bay Soiree. 100 guests commemorated
those who had participated and
particularly those who died in the
Milne Bay and Kokoda trail campaigns.
Fr Rosenskjar had been chaplain at
Milne bay during World War 2. Thank
you to MP choir and our instrumentalist
as well as Year 6 for making it such a
meaningful night. There were members
of the community present whose
immediate relatives had been at Milne
Bay and they were most grateful for the
opportunity to remember them.
April 19, 2012: Kokoda March up Mt Gravatt
Next Tuesday, at 9 a.m. Years 4-7 will climb Mt Gravatt to
commemorate the Kokoda Campaign, 70 years ago, through
which Australian soldiers protected Port Moresby. We invite parents to join us. Especially, we invite any parents
or grandparents – former or present servicemen and women
– who have served their country in any way to join us. A flag
commemoration will take place at the summit.
March 22, 2012: Change to Ekka Show Holiday this year
With the change in the holidays for this
year there has to be some adjustments
to some of our activities. Another impact
has been the loss of the Ministerial
Holiday for the EKKA on the Thursday. Wednesday 15th August remains the
public EKKA holiday however there
will be no school holiday on the
Thursday this year. Thursday 16th
August will be a school day. You may
wish to make note of this in your
family calendars now..
March 13, 2012: School Swimming Carnival
Last Friday was an outstanding
swimming carnival for Years 4 -7.
The day went very smoothly thanks
to the great organisation of Mrs
Robinson and Mr Tracey. As well,
at one stage I counted 16 parents
helping out. Thank you. Parents
would have been proud of their
children, particularly the House
Captains who were thoroughly
organised, enthusiastic, helpful and
supportive of their team.
March 6, 2012: Jubilee Gathering Day Success
Congratulations to the Jubilee
Committee on such a wonderful
community event on Sunday. It was a
great gathering of the community, past
and present, to begin the Jubilee
celebrations. There were animated
conversations as people made
connections and reconnected with
people, events of the past and the
stories of the intervening years. One of
the highlights was singer and song
writer, Dermot Dorgan, performing his
original song telling the story of St
Agnes school community. Thank you
to all who contributed to such an
uplifting community event. I am sure
all who were present will be looking
forward to our next gathering, the
Milne Bay Soiree.
February 28, 2012: Project Compassion
The children learnt about Project Compassion at Assembly
last Thursday. It is a communal Lenten activity we have for
giving people – both within Australia and internationally – a
hand up, rather than a handout. Please look at Caritas
Australia’s website – www.caritas.org.au.
Last Friday, the
children took home a mite box which can be returned after
the Easter vacation. Thank you.
February 21, 2012: Working Bee Thank you
Thank you to the
band of parents who spread softfall
under the playgrounds, weeded
overgrown gardens, whipper
snipped the perimeter and the
environmental area, barrowed
garden soil and mulch, prepared the
no dig garden and frog pond garden.
Thank you for your great effort on
a very hot Sunday afternoon. Your
efforts on behalf of the whole
community are very much
appreciated.
February 15, 2012: Paver for the Jubilee Courtyard
One of our hopes for this jubilee year is to pave Jubilee Courtyard. Last week
we planted a jubilee tree. Now we are
inviting all families, past and present,
to purchase a paver with their family
name inscribed as lasting legacy of the
community.

February 7, 2012: Jubilee Tree Planting
This morning we were able to plant our
Jubilee Tree, a Lemon Myrtle, in our
Jubilee Courtyard. Our hope is that in
the years ahead it will be a sensory
reminder of the year of celebration.
Thank you to Anthony Rains who was
able to procure the tree for us. The
Jubilee committee will soon inform you
how you will be able to contribute to
the development of this Jubilee
Courtyard.
February 7, 2012: Active School Travel

January 31, 2012: Call for Class Representatives
It is that time of year again when we are on the
lookout for parent volunteers from each class in the
school.
The role of a Class Representative is to help develop
a strong communication network within the
school. This is done by …
- organising a ‘Contact List’ of families in your
child’s class
- forwarding any emails from the P&F
- arranging opportunities for social ‘gettogethers’,
(particularly in the lower years of
the school)
If you would like to volunteer for this role in your
child’s class, please fill in your details on the form
attached and return it to the office by Wednesday
8th February or send Tanya Lucas an email at
tlucas@bne.catholic.edu.au. (Want to nominate,
but need more information? Let me know via email
and I will get back to you!).
